Security Alert: OpUSA to Target Banks and US Government

By gTIC ·

On April 10, 2013, a hacktivist group affiliated with Anonymous, AnonGhost, announced Op USA for May 7, 2013. Since the initial public dissemination of the Op, no additional information has been presented. As with other Ops performed by this group, it should be expected for web application and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) to be common place. However, additional attack vectors are likely possible. Due to the public notoriety and early release of information, it is unknown how substantial attacks may be.

Multiple DDoS mitigation solutions are available. Application and networked device security should be reviewed. Security and organizations should review their incident response procedures to ensure that they are up to date. Contacting a trusted third-party security firm should also be considered and performed prior to the event if skilled internal resources are not available.

Organizations should be prepared for potential attacks at all times, but specific attention should be paid during the days leading up to and following May 7, 2013.

Additionally, on April 24, 2013, an initial targeted list of organizations was posted on Pastebin.
