About Thomas Walper

Thomas Walper is an accomplished executive, attorney and board director with more than 40 years of experience guiding companies and creditors through complex financial restructurings and strategic transformations. He is president of WalperAdvisory Inc. and previously spent more than 30 years as a partner and head of the financial restructuring group at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, where he advised boards and board committees, independent directors, sponsors and parties acquiring assets, debt or companies across a wide range of industries, including aerospace and defense, agriculture, automotive, broadcasting and media, education, commercial real estate, energy, financial services, health care, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, mortgage servicing and telecommunications.

 

Walper also served as a partner and head of corporate restructuring at Plainfield Asset Management, a hedge fund focused on distressed and opportunity investments.

 

In addition to serving on Optiv’s board of directors, Walper has served on several public and private company boards, including Walker Edison Furniture, 23andMe, subsidiaries of QVC Group Inc. and Getty Images Holdings Inc. He is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and is widely recognized as a leading adviser in bankruptcy and restructuring. Walper holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School.

 

Committed to community service, he co-founded the Debtor Assistance Pro Bono Program in the Central District of California, which has provided pro bono legal services to more than 8,000 clients annually.
