Internal network traffic isn’t automatically legitimate, employees don’t always have good intentions (nor are they infallible), and partners can’t always be trusted to treat your systems and data with the same caution they would their own. The increasingly popular Zero Trust information security model maintains strict access controls by not trusting anyone or any action by default – and this applies even to those already inside the network perimeter. Each individual transaction is evaluated for need and risk. The approach increases security by employing encryption and tokenization; minimizing the risk associated with unnecessary user privileges; and using analytics and automation to enhance security detection and response.
