Veteran Cyber Security Professionals to Unveil New Penetration Testing Tools; Discuss Intrusion Prevention, Career Advancement and the History of Black Hat

DENVER – July 12, 2017 - Optiv Security, a market-leading provider of end-to-end cyber security solutions, today announced seven of its security experts will speak at Black Hat USA 2017. Presentations will include three security tools being unveiled at the Arsenal Hall, a briefing on intrusion prevention, a panel discussion on career development, and a review of the 20-year history of Black Hat. The conference is scheduled to take place from July 22-27, 2017 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Black Hat Day Zero – Navigating #BHUSA 2017
Who/Topic: Day Zero offers attendees a comprehensive overview of all the programs, content and special features available at Black Hat. Before diving into two, jam-packed days of hacks and research, attendees can hear from Black Hat Review Board members on a broad range of topics. Celebrating Black Hat’s 20th year, Ping Look, Optiv executive advisor, security communications and awareness and former event director of Black Hat Events, will give a history of the conference that has grown into one of the biggest in the industry.

How to Advance Your Career in IT Security
Who/Topic: The need for information security people and skills has never been greater than it is today – and the demand is growing. This panel session will feature Dawn-Marie Hutchinson, Optiv executive director, office of the CISO, top security recruiters and hiring managers who will discuss current opportunities in the IT security space, how companies are hiring and paying security pros, and how individuals can take advantage of the booming market to advance their security careers.

They’re Coming for your Tools: Exploiting Design Flaws for Active Intrusion Prevention
Who/Topic: Several popular attack tools and techniques remain effective in the real world, even though they are well understood and documented. This briefing, led by John Ventura, Optiv practice manager, research, will explore a more active approach toward intrusion prevention that enables defenders to use simple network software applications to seek out and disrupt these attacks.

Building C2 Environments with Warhorse
Who/Topic: Building full-featured command-and-control (C2) environments can be a major undertaking, requiring significant time and effort. However, deployment and or proper infrastructure are key to avoiding detection and maintaining proper operational security during offensive engagements. Warhorse was designed to build these C2 environments with only minimal configuration. During this Arsenal talk, Ralph May, Optiv security consultant, will explain Warhorse and how it can help users navigate C2 environments.

A New Take at Payload Generation: Empty-Nest
Who/Topic: As the evolution of endpoint, egress and network security controls continues, adversaries and penetration testers are finding it increasingly difficult to execute malicious payloads within properly-hardened enterprise networks. In this Arsenal presentation, James Cook, Optiv security consultant, and Tom Steele, Optiv practice manager, attack and pen, will detail Empty-Nest, a toolset that allows red team engineers to perform advanced command-and-control (C2) in order to identity efficacies and deficiencies in overall cyber attack chains. The use of proprietary or custom C2 frameworks assist organizations with situational awareness and readiness capabilities by emulating unconventional techniques and tactics.

SERPICO
Who/Topic: SERPICO v1.2 is a simple and intuitive report generation and collaboration tool, with the primary function focused on cutting down the time it takes to write a penetration testing report. In this Arsenal presentation featuring Pete Arzamendi, Optiv research scientist, attendees will learn how the newest updates to SERPICO can simplify the reporting process.
