BAS - Breach and Attack Simulation Tools

BAS tools automate the simulation of advanced adversarial activities to help expose gaps to be remediated before a real attacker can exploit the same gaps to cause damage.

BAS is a term developed by Gartner to describe emerging technology platforms that allow enterprises to simulate complex cyber attacks on demand. These tools automate the simulation of advanced adversarial activities to help expose gaps to be remediated before a real attacker can exploit the same gaps to cause damage.

While BAS cannot fully simulate the ingenuity and capability of legitimate threat actors -- or human-driven penetration testers -- it can help identify security vulnerabilities on a continuous basis for proactive remediation. In addition, BAS can be used to instrument security infrastructure to ensure that it is functioning as intended.
